Feel like dropping us a note and telling us how great we're doing?  Or maybe that we have no idea what the heck we're doing and should shut down the whole thing?   Perhaps just a suggestion or two?

Well, drop us a line and let us know!  Don't be shy.  We can take it.  Especially if it's praise.  We eat that stuff up!

TFR Ep. 380: Darkest Hour, Bright, Call It!

Chris Scalzo

On this week’s episode of The First Run, Matt & Chris discuss Joe Wright’s ‘Darkest Hour’, starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill during the U.K.’s…well…darkest hour during World War II.  Will they attempt to negotiate peace with the Germans? (spoiler, they don’t)  Will they be able to evacuate the hundreds of thousands of troops from the French beach of Dunkirk?  (spoiler, they do) And will Oldman finally get his Best Actor Oscar win?  Magic 8 Ball says the answer is hazy, best to ask after seeing ‘Phantom Thread’.  Then it’s on to David Ayer’s ‘Bright’, Netflix’s attempt at the big blockbuster.   The film stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as a couple of L.A. cops trying to keep the streets safe from various magical creatures.  It’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ meets ‘End Of Watch’ (hey, also directed by David Ayer).  A sequel’s already been announced.  So, cool.  But is this genre mash up any good?  Per usual, there’s the big releases on Blu-Ray & DVD, featuring the Straight to DVD and Streaming Picks of the Week.  Then the show wraps with the Sophie’s Choice of movie segment, Call It!  Which series would you keep; John Wick or The Raid?  DCEU or DC Elseworld’s & Vertigo? And more!  Never surrender and listen to the latest episode of The First Run.
