TFR Ep. 402: Hereditary, Ocean’s 8, Top 5 A24 Films

This week on The First Run, Matt & Chris laughed, cried, and spent a healthy amount of their time at the theater in abject terror. First up, it’s the latest from TFR favorite A24, ‘Hereditary’. Toni Collette plays a mother desperate to keep her family together as it faces tragic losses and other associated terrifying goings on. It’s supposed to be the scariest film in years. Can it possibly live up to the hype? Then it’s the ‘Ocean’s’ heist film series spin off, ‘Ocean’s 8’. Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, fresh out of prison and ready to make a big score. She recruits a crew featuring THE Cate Blanchett, Rhianna, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina to steal a $150 million necklace off a movie star portrayed by Anne Hathaway. Can director Gary Ross recapture the magic of the original, or does this latest outing pair up more with the lackluster sequels? There’s the always reliable Blu-Ray & DVD rundown, featuring the Straight to DVD and Streaming Picks of the Week. The show then wraps with Chris and Matt discuss the 5 Best Films Released By A24.
